This is the (re)start

Decades later, I’m starting to create content again. Here’s why, along with an invitation to join the journey!

I started blogging in 2006, back when people did it just for the pure fun of it without thinking about pageviews or making money. I wrote about my life; not anything specific to tech.

However, because I was naturally drawn to all things tech (my childhood dream was to become a tech reporter based in Silicon Valley so that I could review tech products firsthand), my writing eventually became mostly about tech.

In fact, not only did I write for national newspapers and print magazines, but I also managed a handful of tech blogs. Though I never pivoted to making video content, I can probably say that I was creating content before ‘content creation’ was a thing.

I was creating content before ‘content creation’ was a thing.

I kept writing and publishing until I got my first real remote job with serious pay, and then I did something that I regret to this day: I stopped making time for my passion and dedicated my life to work.

Honestly, had I kept publishing, I probably would have made a successful media business today. Instead, I dedicated all my time to work.

The result? When work decided to part ways with me, I was left with nothing that I could call my own.

Today, despite starting literally decades ago, I’m having to start with a blank slate.

Someone said people eventually come back to their childhood passion. That’s what happened to me. And I decided to do something about it.

That something is the founding of AIS Tech Notes.

What’s in tech?

Like most people in the creative space, I have far too many interests. Sometimes I want to create content about video games. Sometimes my inner car lover rises out of me. Sometimes I find myself obsessed with travel content.

And other times I see myself longing to write longform content about photography.

People eventually come back to their childhood passion.

For people with too many interests, the lack of focus is the biggest enemy. Although I’ve narrowed my focus on tech, there are so many things you could focus on that fall within the broad scope of the tech industry. Still, I decided to publish everything I’m interested in about tech.

And that’s why the name includes “Tech Notes”: it’s all notes that just happen to be about tech.

Oh, and AIS, those are the initials of my full name.

Together, this space — and the corresponding YouTube channel — will be my personal digital notebook for sharing notes about all things tech.

Although this is the first post, it is not the beginning; it’s the restart of something I’ve always been passionate about: talking about tech.

I’ve written about the kind of tech content you can expect to watch/read from AIS Tech Notes on its website: About AIS Tech Notes.

If you’d like to follow me in this journey, feel free to do so in the variety of ways I’ve laid out below:

Email newsletter: I plan to publish a weekly round-up of tech news and other content worth exploring. I highly recommend subscribing to the email newsletter so that our connection doesn’t rely on any algorithm 🙂

YouTube: The primary place where all AIS Tech Notes’ video content will be published.

Social media: Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and others are listed below.

For more on what you can expect to watch/read from AIS Tech Notes, please check out the About page.

Oh, and another important thing, although I’m an avid AI user, I don’t plan to publish any AI-generated content, which is why one of the first things I’ve written for AIS Tech Notes is the AI Usage Policy.

That means a human (for now, just me) has authored every piece of text you read and every word you hear.

I’ve been procrastinating on writing the perfect first post for so long that it’s now obligatory that I just press publish to get it out there. Eventually, I’ll have a dedicated page for all the gear and software I use and recommend.

I’d love for you to join me in this exciting journey, and I’d love to hear from you! Please leave me a comment or email me suggestions!
